San Marino Splits Rio Hondo League Games

The San Marino High School varsity girls’ basketball team bounced back from its Rio Hondo League opening loss by clobbering visiting Pasadena Blair, 60-6, last Friday.
Joyce Liang scored a game-high 15 points to help San Marino score its first league win of the season, and junior Cheyenne Trac added nine points, four assists and three steals. Audrey Lin finished with eight points, seven rebounds, three assists and three steals, Kyli Bonavich had eight points and seven rebounds, Zoee Li totaled five points, nine rebounds and four steals, Sabella Singh also had five points to go with three steals, Kathleen Liu netted five points and recorded four assists, Tina McDaniel finished with four points, four rebounds and two steals, Evelyn Tran contributed one point and three rebounds, and Nikki Wong grabbed five rebounds and recorded two assists.
The Titans (10-9 overall record, 1-1 in league) traveled to South Pasadena on Wednesday and will hit the road this Friday, Jan. 20, to take on La Cañada at 5:30 p.m.

Temple City 61
San Marino 56

The Titans were unable to keep up with Temple City in their Rio Hondo League opener last week, falling to the Rams in overtime, 61-56.
San Marino led by three points at the half, 26-13, but the Rams fought back to tie the game in the final two quarters and force an overtime period. The home squad ultimately pulled away for the win.
Kathleen Liu was the Titans’ top performer with 14 points, six rebounds and four assists. Liu was also a perfect seven-for-seven from the free throw line, and Kyli Bonavich and Hanna Wang added 11 points each. Joyce Liang chipped in seven points, five rebounds and three steals, Audrey Bain finished with six points, Nikki Wong had three points, six rebounds and four assists, Sabella Singh totaled three points and four rebounds, and Cheyenne Trac contributed a point. Singh, Bonavich, Liang and Bain each blocked one shot.
The visiting squad was solid beyond the arc, hitting nine of 24 three-pointers. Bonavich hit all three of her three-point shot attempts, and Wang also drilled three from beyond the arc. Liang made two of four three-point shots, and Liu also drilled three-pointer.
