Apply for Classical Concert Artist Competition by Jan. 20

Since 1986, the Pasadena Community Orchestra Young Artist Competition has identified, assisted and featured talented young musicians in the furtherance of their musical career and education. The winner of the competition will appear as guest soloist with the PCO on Friday, May 11, and will receive a $500 cash award. The audition is Saturday, Feb. 3, from 1-4 p.m.
The competition is open to contestants between the ages of 16-25 who perform on the piano or a standard orchestral instrument (voice not admitted). Contestants must be ready to perform an entire concerto or solo work with orchestra accompaniment; judges will determine which portions of the work will be performed at the competition. All music must be performed from memory; the judges may request any portion of the music and may terminate any audition without prejudice to the performer.
Contestants must perform with accompaniment and must provide their own accompanist and one copy of the score for the judges. The judges shall be selected by the Young Artists Audition Committee. Any teacher entering a student in this audition will not be eligible to serve as a judge. The decision of the judges is final and irrevocable. Judging is based on the outstanding performance and suitability to the orchestra. The age of a contestant is not a consideration.
Entry application and online submission form may be accessed at: pcomusic.org/youngartist-competition.
A registration fee of $60 must accompany the completed print entry form. An additional fee of $2.75 applies to online applications/payments. Application and registration fee may be mailed to Young Artist Competition, 1020 S. 5th St., Montebello, CA 90640. The closing postmark date for receipt of entries is Jan. 20.
