Bill Nye the Science Guy was greeted like a rock star by a crowd of 325 people who gathered to hear him and co-author Gregory Mone discuss their book series, “Jack and the Geniuses,” on Thursday, Sept. 14, at Flintridge Bookstore & Coffeehouse’s outdoor parking lot.
“Helloooo Flintridge!” the former TV star and renowned science personality shouted into his microphone over the cheering crowd, which consisted of fans of all ages. Nye went on to share some of his motivation for writing the series, which combines real-world science along with mysterious adventure in a way that’s meant to leave young readers guessing until the end.
“Big picture: There are three things I want for everyone to want for everybody on Earth,” Nye said. “The first is clean water, the second one is renewable electricity and the third is access to the Internet, or whatever the Internet comes to be called in 20 years. So each of the three books has that as background.”
The latest release in the three-book series is “Jack and the Geniuses Book #2: In the Deep Blue Sea.” It follows “Jack and the Geniuses: At the Bottom of the World.” The final installation will be “Jack and the Geniuses: At the Bottom of the World.”
“It’s cool,” Nye said. “I’m very, very excited about this.”
