The Maranatha High School varsity boys’ basketball team clobbered visiting Whittier Christian of La Habra, 58-33, in the teams’ Olympic League opener last week.
Senior Jessie Elrod led the Minutemen with 16 points, nine rebounds and two steals, and Chris Austin added 10 rebounds and three rebounds. Terrance Lang totaled six points and five rebounds, Josh Kim finished with six points and three rebounds, Sean Espinosa chipped in five points, three rebounds, six assists and two steals, Khamron Cantrell scored five points, Wes Clarkson netted three points and grabbed three rebounds, Skyye DeCatur had two points and two assists, Brad Lee and Mason Swinnie contributed two points each, and Tevan Khudatyan finished with a point and four assists.
The Minutemen (7-7 overall record, 1-0 in league) will host Cerritos Valley Christian in a league contest this Friday, Jan. 20, at 7 p.m.

Flintridge Prep 53
The Rebels were unable to overcome a 10-point, third-quarter deficit and fell to host Palos Verdes Chadwick, 63-53, last Friday.
Flintridge Prep (4-7 overall, 2-1 in league) led 13-9 after the first quarter, but the Dolphins’ offense came back with 17 points in the second and 21 in the third to build a 10-point lead.
Jake Althouse led Prep with 21 points, and Jonny Samuels added 10 points. Jonathan Le netted seven, Kendall Kikkawa had six, Beau Detchemendy finished with five points, Cameron Wu had three and Julian Diaz contributed one point.
Los Angeles Loyola 61
St. Francis 51
The Golden Knights dropped their third Mission League game of the season, falling to host Loyola of Los Angeles, 61-51, last Friday.
Andre Henry led St. Francis with 16 points. The Golden Knights will look to bounce back at home against Sherman Oaks Notre Dame this Friday, Jan. 20, at 7 p.m.

The Panthers downed visiting Claremont Webb, 63-37, on Saturday to extend their winning streak to four games.
Poly improved to 12-3 on the season, including a 3-0 record in Prep League play. The Panthers will host Lynwood Firebaugh in a league contest this Saturday, Jan. 21, at 4 p.m.

The Lancers were unable to keep up with Highland of Palmdale in the fourth quarter and fell, 58-53, in the MLK Showcase at Riverside King on Monday.
La Salle (11-7 overall, 2-0 in league) will host Long Beach St. Anthony in a Camino Real League game this Friday, Jan. 20, at 7 p.m.
