Lions Club Student Speech Contest Feb. 5

The San Marino Griffins Lions Club and the San Marino High School Leo Club will sponsor a student speaker contest on Feb. 5, from 1-4 p.m. at Crowell Public Library. Students from all local public and private high schools are encouraged to participate. Each year a different subject is selected by the Lion Multiple District Four Student Speaker Committee. This year’s participants will address the topic: “Is the Right to Privacy a Threat to Our National Security?”
The purpose of the contest is to provide an opportunity for competitive public speaking among students on a subject of vital interest to both the contestants and to all Americans; to stimulate self-expression and independent thinking; to present to the public the issues surrounding the maintenance of the commonwealth as a free nation; and to consider the means at our disposal of addressing present and future world problems.
The winning speaker will receive a $100 cash prize and will advance to a zone contest with students from other high schools. The final prize is a $20,000 scholarship.
