Community Gardens Conservancy Plants a Party

It must have been the combination of spectacular 3-acre gardens at the 1905 Henry A. Robinson House and the groaning board of roasted meats and seafood, pastas and Italian desserts whipped up by Union’s chef Bruce Kalman. The result was a magical night on the Arroyo for the Pasadena Community Gardens Conservancy’s annual Seeds of Transformation garden party benefitting educational food gardens and master gardeners for 12,000 low-income children in Northwest Pasadena. The event was chaired by Beth Hansen, Susan Osen and Eileen Read.
Jim Folsom of the Huntington Library was honored for partnering with PCGC for teacher training and curriculum development. Principal Juan Ruelas received an award for transforming Madison Elementary School and initiating a pre-botany program using the new garden and orchard. Also honored were Phaedra Ledbetter for leading the healthy food revolution for San Gabriel Valley children and Susan Osen, who was bestowed board member emeritus status for her dedication to fundraising. PCGC aims to build two new gardens in the coming year. For more information, visit pasadenaconservancy.org.
