Westridge School alumna Betsy Roth, co-founder of Little Candle Productions, is back on campus to hold play rehearsals for the upcoming production of “American Home,” which opens Aug. 26 at the Fremont Centre Theatre in South Pasadena.
Roth, also an actress, is serving as producer and stage manager, while her sister, Ellie Roth, another Westridge alumna, is prop designer for the upcoming play that explores three tales about the 2008 mortgage crisis from playwright Stephanie Alison Walker.
In 2008, Walker and her husband were among the one in 54 homeowners to receive a foreclosure notice when the American housing market collapsed. As she fought to save her home and her marriage, Walker penned the first draft of “American Home,” a powerful drama featuring a young couple facing eviction from the dream house they stretched to buy; an elderly widow who falls prey to a reverse mortgage scheme; and a minister of the prosperity gospel who must face the flock she’s led astray.
The play runs Aug. 26 through Sept. 24. For more information, visit littlecandleproductions.com.
