Planned Parenthood Pasadena and San Gabriel Valley will hold its annual Fall Benefit on Sunday, Oct. 1, at the Langham Huntington Hotel. The event begins at 6:30 p.m.
A tradition since the 1960s, the group’s Fall Benefit is the organization’s signature fundraiser and welcomes 400 of the region’s top philanthropists and community leaders each year.
The Fall Benefit raises essential funds to support Planned Parenthood Pasadena and San Gabriel Valley’s four health centers located in Pasadena, Eagle Rock, Alhambra and Glendora. Each year, more than 60,000 patients visit, in addition to 11,000 opportunities for sex and relationship education that occur at local schools and colleges.
Joan Caillouette, former board member and longtime volunteer, will serve her seventh consecutive year as honorary patron chair. Joining her as the Fall Benefit’s co-chairs are board members Stephanie McLemore and Yvonne Zaro.
“Now more than ever, it is critical to stand with Planned Parenthood and help protect the critical services that the organization provides to millions of people across the country and tens of thousands right here in Northeast LA and the San Gabriel Valley,” Zaro said. “All people should have access to reproductive services, no matter what your income, race or gender.”
This year, the Fall Benefit’s keynote speaker will be Dr. Willie Parker, a reproductive justice advocate who travels as an abortion provider in Alabama and Georgia. Parker was recently honored by the United Nations Office of Human Rights as one of 12 Women’s Human Rights Defenders on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the United Nations’ Fourth World Conference on Women. He also is the board chair of the Physicians for Reproductive Health.
In his recent memoir, “Life’s Work: A Moral Argument for Choice,” Parker writes about the alignment of his beliefs as a devout Christian and his journey to becoming one of the few abortion providers in the rural Deep South.
Major Fall Benefit corporate sponsors this year include: Kaiser Permanente; Perry, Neidorf & Grassl LLP; United Plankton Laemmle Charitable Foundation; Spertus, Landes & Umhofer LLP; Gluck Building Co.; and Huntington Hospital.
Ticket and patron packages and sponsorship opportunities are available, with individual tickets starting at $300. To buy tickets, visit pppsgv.org or contact Merideth King at mking@pppsgv.org.
