Hathaway-Sycamores board members Scott Hodgkins and Elizabeth Hoxworth, CEO Debra Manners and CFO Jim Huser were among those who enjoyed the organization’s annual Celebrating Children fundraiser at the Los Angeles Zoo.

Hathaway-Sycamores Child and Family Services’ recent Celebrating Children Gala was attended by a sellout crowd of 400 people at the Los Angeles Zoo. The fundraiser raised more than $475,000 that will help fund the therapeutic and other crucial support services that Hathaway-Sycamores — one of Los Angeles County’s largest mental health and welfare agencies — provides each year to thousands of children, youth, young adults and families facing serious life challenges.
Local residents Gayle and Michael Galper were recognized with Hathaway-Sycamores’ Celebrating Children Award, which honors an individual or family who exemplifies the values of integrity, leadership and commitment to the well-being of children, adults, families and communities.

“We are so pleased to have had the opportunity to honor two very special people, Gayle and Mike Galper, who, through their many years of involvement in Hathaway-Sycamores, have changed the lives of countless young people whose lives have been impacted by violence and trauma,” said Hathaway-Sycamores’ President and CEO Debra Manners. “The evening in their honor allowed Hathaway-Sycamores to raise funds that will bring healing and hope to thousands of other children and families. To them and to those who contributed so generously that evening, we extend our deepest appreciation and gratitude.”
Those on hand had the opportunity to visit with Billy the Elephant, harpy eagles, otters and other aquatic species as they explored the zoo after hours before enjoying a delicious dinner catered by Taste of the Wild.
