The month-long LCF Trails Games, co-sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of La Cañada and the LCF Trails Council, launches today and runs through April 30. The LCF Trails Game is for all ages; admission is free.
“Whether you’re a beginner wanting to try hiking, or a mountain biker who loves the thrill of competing, this game is for you,” an event spokesperson said.
“We hope the LCF Trails Game encourages kids and families to go outdoors and exercise – given this time of COVID – so go out and enjoy the trails,” said LCF Trails Game Committee Chair Linda Fors. “It’s a proven way to boost your health and wellbeing and get you smiling, plus you could win some great prizes!”
LCF Trails Council President Tom Reynolds said, “Having a month-long trails game that engages hikers, bikers and equestrians is a fabulous idea. The La Cañada Flintridge Trails Council is excited to be working with Kiwanis Club of La Cañada on this event.”
The LCF Trails Game has something for everyone. Two members of the committee, representing area youth, are George Kamar and Phil Klemmer. “They have ignited the group with their latest tech talents and enthusiasm,” the spokesperson said. “They have brought such innovations as a custom website to sign up for the games and a QR Code to directly link to The LCF Trails Game ‘Point Input’ form. The form allows you to submit singular or multiple challenges at the same time, with mountain bike riders required to use Strava to record their trip.”
Participants may also use their wireless device to view an interactive trail map to verify location, take selfies to win prizes, tally up points and more. There is also mystery and trivia spot challenges to add to earn points.
Each week will yield cash card prizes ranging from $25-75 for the top three finishers. At the end of the four weeks, there will be cash card grand prize of $150. The first 100 people to earn points will get a free LCF Trail DVD and Trails map, courtesy of LCF Trails Council.
“To cheer on nature and the beauty of our scenic landscape, the game is being held during the entire month of April, which coincides with the Keep America Beautiful Month and Earth Day Month,” according to a Kiwanis statement. “To do your part, please make sure to wear your mask and don’t litter on the trails.”
Event committee members include LCF Trails Game Chair Linda Fors, Greg Brown, Kaitzer Puglia, Elizabeth Georgeon, Trish McRae, Alice Perez and Georgina Mueller, all representing the Kiwanis Club. Committee members from the LCF Trails Council are President Tom Reynolds and board member Jennifer Seastrom; with LCHS students George Kamar and Phil Klemmer also assisting.
