St. Francis Defeats Spartans, 50-36

Michael Herrick scored six points and grabbed five rebounds in the Spartans’ 50-36 loss against St. Francis last Saturday.

The St. Francis varsity boys’ basketball team continues to own the bragging rights in the city with a 50-36 victory over host La Cañada High School in a nonleague contest last Saturday.
The Spartans trailed by only three at the half, 27-24, but struggled offensively in the final two quarters, adding only 12 points to the board.
St. Francis extended its winning streak over its local rival to four games. La Cañada last defeated the Golden Knights in 2016.
Ty Reynolds led LCHS with 13 points and Jacob Lee added eight points. Michael Harrick turned in an all-around solid performance with six points, five rebounds and three assists. Jack Stroben contributed five rebounds and three assists, David Garland finished with two points and five rebounds, Jack Reynolds netted three points, and Jacob Pastor and Brady Ransom each had two points.
Buckley DeJardin led the Golden Knights (6-3 overall, 1-2 in Mission League) with 11 points and Jackson Mosley chipped in 10 points.
The Spartans (0-5 overall record) followed that game suffering another loss on Monday at the hands of Pasadena Maranatha. The Minutemen jumped out to a 16-11 lead and never looked back en route to a 62-53 win.
Reynolds led LC with 15 points and Garland added six points and 10 rebounds. Brandon Chung also netted six to go with three assists and three rebounds, Stroben finished with four points, seven rebounds and two assists, Reynolds scored four points, Mentoa McKenzie contributed three points, Herrick recorded three assists and Ransom had two points.
La Cañada opened Rio Hondo League play at Temple City on Wednesday and will face San Marino on the road this Friday, April 25, at 7 p.m.
