Northern Trust Previews ‘Rhapsody in Blue’

Northern Trust recently hosted an intimate group of guests at the Ambassador Auditorium for a preview of the Pasadena Symphony’s “Rhapsody in Blue.”
Guests were treated to a performance and discussion with conductor Anna Rakitini and soloist Llewellyn Sanchez-Werner.

Symphony Kicks Off ’21-22 Season Saturday

The Pasadena Symphony opens its 93rd season with Beethoven Symphony No. 7 on Saturday, Oct. 16, at Ambassador Auditorium. There will be matinee and evening performances at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m., respectively.
Acclaimed conductor Joseph Young, who serves as music director of the Berkeley Symphony among other major posts across the U.S., will kick off the 2021-22 Symphony Series as one of seven artistic partners leading the orchestra this season.

Pasadena Symphony Plays Rachmaninoff on March 24

The Pasadena Symphony continues its 90th season on Saturday, March 24, with Rachmaninoff’s “Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini” at Ambassador Auditorium with performances at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.
Music Director David Lockington will open with Alexander Miller’s contemporary overture “Scher” and close with “Enigma Variations of Elgar.” The program centers around a classic Rachmaninoff melody, performed by pianist Andrew von Oeyen. Symphony to Play Stravinsky’s ‘Firebird Suite’

Music Director David Lockington returns to the podium on Saturday, Feb. 17, for Stravinsky’s “Firebird Suite” at Ambassador Auditorium with performances at 2 and 8 p.m. The Pasadena Symphony’s ode to romance arrives just in time to celebrate Valentine’s Day. The February concert will also feature Dvorák’s tribute to a long-lost love, his rapturous Cello Concerto, and a world premiere Pasadena Symphony commission by up-and-coming Pasadena composer Dale Trumbore titled “Infinitely and Without Apology.”

Symphony to Orbit Mozart’s ‘Jupiter’

The Pasadena Symphony continues its 90th season on Saturday, Nov. 18 with Mozart Symphony No. 41, “Jupiter” at Ambassador Auditorium with performances at 2 and 8 p.m. Music Director David Lockington will lead a musical voyage around Europe with this tour de force program celebrating three musical giants. Rossini’s bright and breezy “Barber of Seville” overture opens the program, St. Saens’ 2nd Piano Concerto is next, followed by Mozart’s last masterpiece, “Jupiter.” Named for the king of the Roman gods, known for his joviality, exuberance and great strength, Mozart’s final symphony carries the majestic first movement through to a triumphant finish.
