LCPC Parent Education Enjoys Holiday Party, Plans for Future

In the holiday spirit of mixing business with pleasure, the LCPC Parent Education board, ministry support team and staff recently met at the La Cañada Flintridge home of Brad and Ashley Barrett for a year-end Christmas party and board meeting.
The evening was filled with good food, fellowship, reflection, planning and prayer in anticipation of the wonderful year ahead.

LCPC Parent Ed Gala to Honor Bierling Feb. 29

La Cañada Presbyterian Church Parent Education will host its annual benefit gala, “Loving Mercy Restoring Lives,” on Saturday, Feb. 29, at Oakmont Country Club in Glendale. The event will help finance operations of Parent Ed, which will partner with local advocacy organization FosterAll to raise funds to secure homes for foster children in Los Angeles. L.A. Honda Helps Boy Find Service Dog

Until very recently, whenever little Jude DeMatteis needed to have blood drawn, or to undergo a procedure or testing, he’d recoil in terror the moment he saw a hospital or doctor’s office, said his mom, Jasmine DeMatteis.
Now nearing 5 years old, Jude has been primarily living off a feeding tube since he was just 4 months. He suffers from Crohn’s disease, and was diagnosed more than a year ago with medical post-traumatic stress disorder.
For the past few weeks, however, Jude’s anxiety has seemed to decrease. What’s more, the side effects that result from having to take chemotherapy medications such as Imuran seem less intense.

LCPC Parent Education Bowls for Benefit on Feb. 24

La Cañada Presbyterian Church’s Parent Education Program is announcing its annual benefit, “Keep Calm and Bowl On,” on Saturday, Feb. 24, at Bowlmor Lanes in Pasadena.
The benefit will feature a fun-filled night of good food, laughs and of course, bowling. The event will be emceed by the Rev. Chuck Osburn and comedian Ron Pearson.
The 2018 Parent Ed Benefit will include dinner, bowling, complimentary drinks, a raffle, a live auction and an online silent auction. Live auction items include a condo in Maui, house in Sedona with golf package and concert tickets. Silent auction items include sports tickets, tickets to the Autry Museum, art classes and local restaurants. Additional auction items can be donated to Hillary Clayburgh at All proceeds benefit LCPC Parent Education.

For 39 years, LCPC’s Parent Education Program has maintained its legacy of quality education and reputable staff. Currently, the program offers 14 parent education classes per week for parents of children who are newborns through age 18. LCPC Parent Education Caps Year Honoring Staff

The La Cañada Presbyterian Church’s Parent Education Program capped the end of its 38th year by honoring three long-serving staff members.
Jan Roberts was honored for her 25 years of dedicated service teaching parents of children ranging from elementary school age through college. She expanded the curriculum of the Parenting Elementary Kids classes, spearheaded the development and implementation of the Tween and Teen Classes, conducted Parent Ed Seasonal Crafts Workshops and created a Parenting College Kid’s Class, which she presently teaches through her in-home business that she has run since 2008. Roberts is well-loved throughout Parent Education and known in the community as the “Parent Coach,” writing a popular weekly column for the La Cañada Flintridge and Pasadena Outlook publications. In 2012, she was named Parent Ed’s Shining Star.
