John Burroughs High School’s varsity boys’ soccer team cruised to a 4-1 Pacific League victory at Pasadena on Wednesday afternoon.
Sophomore Dominic Quijada led the Bears by scoring two goals in the first half. Meanwhile, goalie Christian Alfaro logged six saves, including one on a penalty kick in the second half. Teammates Alexander Loera and Mario Herrera each scored one goal in the last half.

Bears Win Back-to-Back; Bulldogs Fall in Overtime

The John Burroughs High School varsity girls’ water polo team won its second game in as many days when it defeated visiting Crescenta Valley High of La Crescenta, 16-8, in a Pacific League matchup on Wednesday.
Seniors Makenna Palamara, Nancy Baylor and Clarissa Robles each contributed four goals while junior goalie Mindy Hernandez added six saves.

Burroughs Defeats Burbank in Rivalry Game, 61-48

In a normal season, Burbank High and John Burroughs usually face one another in boys’ basketball twice, and at the start of this season it could have been even more as the Pacific League schools were to play in an upper and lower tier after the midway point.
However, COVID variant Omicron has altered plans and the league competition was reduced to a single round. This meant that when the Bears hosted the Bulldogs on Thursday, it would be the lone encounter between the intracity rivals, giving extra importance to the matchup.

Casillas, Tarvirdi Help Bulldogs Dominate Hoover

The Burbank High School varsity girls’ basketball team routed host Hoover High, 55-25, in a Pacific League matchup last Friday as three Bulldogs scored in double digits.
Junior Karen Casillas scored a team-high 14 points, senior Alle Tarvirdi posted 12 points, senior Tabitha Cruz added 10 points, and senior Emily Megerdichian had six points on two 3-pointers.

Bears Rout Rival Bulldogs, 7-1

John Burroughs High School’s varsity girls’ soccer team routed host Burbank, 7-1, in last week’s intracity rivalry Pacific League match. No individual statistics were reported to the Leader.
The Bears (4-1 league record 4-5 overall) are scheduled to host Arcadia for a league game on Tuesday, Jan. 25, at 3:30 p.m.
Meanwhile, the Bulldogs also fell to Hoover High, 3-0, in a Pacific League match on Tuesday, Jan. 11. Burbank (1-6 in league, 1-8 overall) is currently in seventh place in the league standings in front of Pasadena’s John Muir (0-5 in league) as league play ends this month.

Burroughs Defeats Cantwell, 56-48

John Burroughs High School’s varsity boys’ basketball team defeated visiting Montebello Cantwell-Sacred Heart, 56-48, in the Huntington Park tournament last Saturday. No individual statistics were reported to the Leader.

Burbank Falls to Crescenta Valley

Burbank High School’s varsity girls’ water polo team traveled to Crescenta Valley for a Pacific League match and lost 15-14 in double overtime on Thursday.
The Bulldogs were led by Julie Kim, who scored a team-high five goals including four in the final quarter to help send Burbank into overtime.

Bears Defeat Bulldogs in Intracity Rivalry Match

John Burroughs High School’s varsity boys’ soccer team narrowly defeated visiting Burbank, 2-1, in an intracity rivalry Pacific League match last Friday.
Burroughs (4-4-1 overall record, 3-2 in league) is in fourth in the league’s standings and is scheduled to visit Pasadena High this Wednesday, Jan. 19, for a league match at 3:30 p.m.
Burbank (5-3 overall, 3-3 in league) fell to fifth place and is scheduled to visit Hoover High in Glendale for a league match on Thursday, Jan. 20, at 3:30 p.m.

Bears Overcome Slow Start to Defeat Bulldogs

Senior Noor Fahs scored a game-high 21 points and had six rebounds to lead the John Burroughs High School’s varsity girls’ basketball team to a 54-43 victory over visiting Burbank in the intracity rivalry game last Friday.
Junior Kylie Indefenzo posted 15 points, including making 4 of 5 from behind the arch, while junior Izzy Roderick registered a double-double with 10 points and a team-high 12 rebounds for the Bears, who held a 24-22 halftime lead.
