LCHS Defeats Maranatha, Set to Open League Play

La Cañada High School’s boys’ varsity soccer team ended the calendar year with a 3-1 nonleague victory over visiting Maranatha High of Pasadena last Thursday, Dec. 30.
Previously, the Spartans (3-6-3 overall record) hosted a tournament and finished 0-1-1 over two days.

Spartans Win 3 of 4 in Post-Christmas Tournament

La Cañada High School’s varsity boys’ basketball team recently competed in the Battle for the Ball Christmas Tournament at Hacienda Heights Wilson from Dec. 27-30, winning three of its four games.
Senior forward Brady Ransom notched a double-double with a team-high 21 points and 11 rebounds in a 58-54 victory against host Wilson last Thursday, Dec. 30. Senior guard Ty Reynolds collected 16 points and four rebounds while senior forward Jacob Lee added seven points, two rebounds and two assists for the Spartans, who improved their overall record to 10-5.

LCHS, Flintridge Prep, St. Francis Compete in Tournaments

La Cañada High School’s varsity boys’ soccer team lost to Eagle Rock, 3-1, in its LCHS Tournament opener on Monday, Dec. 27.
The Spartans (2-5-2 overall record) previously registered a scoreless nonleague tie with visiting Flintridge Prep last Wednesday. No individual statistics were provided to the Outlook Valley Sun.
After the tournament, LCHS will begin Rio Hondo League play by hosting Blair High of Pasadena on Wednesday, Jan. 5, at 3:30 p.m.

La Cañada Wins Tournament Opener

La Cañada High School’s varsity boys’ basketball team opened the Battle for the Ball Christmas Tournament at Hacienda Heights Wilson with a 63-50 victory over Los Angeles CES on Monday.
Senior forward Brady Ransom led the Spartans (8-4 overall) with 18 points, including three 3-pointers, eight rebounds and three steals. Senior center David Garland had 10 points, nine rebounds and a team-high four blocks, while senior guard Brandon Chung added 10 points and three rebounds.

Golden Knights Recognized by Quarterback Club

The Glendale YMCA Quarterback Club recently handed out its awards for the 2021 football season, honoring local high school and community college students for their achievements in the sport and as students this year.

St. Francis Defeats Spartans in Intracity Rivalry

The La Cañada High School varsity boys’ basketball team fell at St. Francis, 54-34, in a nonleague game last Friday.
The Spartans (7-4 overall record) were led by sophomore guard Jack Reynolds, who scored a team-high eight points including two 3-pointers, and senior forward Brady Ransom, who had seven points, four rebounds and one steal.
The Golden Knights (10-2 overall) were led by senior shooting guard Buckley DeJardin and senior point guard Jake Goldberg, who scored 20 and 13 points, respectively.

Spartans Defeat Flintridge Prep, 60-42

David Garland registered a double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds to lead the La Cañada High School boys’ varsity basketball team over visiting Flintridge Prep, 60-42, in a nonleague game last Thursday.
Brandon Chung added 12 points, five rebounds, five assists and two steals for the Spartans, who improved their overall record to 7-3.
