Spartans Improve Rio Hondo League Record to 3-1

The La Cañada High School girls’ varsity water polo team defeated host Blair High of Pasadena, 15-9, in a Rio Hondo League game on Tuesday.
Alexis Calix, Jenna Ku, Kadyn Day, Shereen Emadi, Thea Stefan and Anna Fogarty each scored two goals for LCHS. Meanwhile, teammates Didi Reifsnyder-Smith, Kylie Ku and Annabelle Hsieh each added one goal.

Spartans, St. Francis Earn Shutout Victories

Freshman Harrison Chant led La Cañada High School’s varsity boys’ soccer team with a hat trick as the Spartans cruised to a 12-0 shutout victory over visiting San Marino High in a Rio Hondo League game last Friday.
Seniors Tyler Na-Nakornpanom and Jason Shibata each added two goals in the blowout victory while senior Alec Sodonis, senior Christopher Boghossian, senior Ethan Godby, junior Royce Xiao and sophomore Jamie Saunders also joined the fun by each scoring one goal.

LCHS to Face South Pasadena in Showdown Friday

La Cañada High School’s varsity boys’ basketball team has been idle since its dominant 79-39 victory over visiting Pasadena Blair in a Rio Hondo League game on Jan. 10.

La Cañada High School’s varsity girls’ basketball team has been idle since its 47-10 route over visiting Blair High of Pasadena in a Rio Hondo League game on Jan. 10.
The Spartans (8-3 overall record, 1-0 in league), ranked No. 18 in the CIF-SS Division 3AA, are scheduled to host powerful South Pasadena (15-1 overall record, 2-0 in league) in a critical matchup between two of the Rio Hondo League’s top teams. Spartans Beat Blair, 47-10, in League Opener

In its Rio Hondo League opener, the La Cañada High School varsity girls’ basketball team extended its win streak to three games after dominating visiting Blair High of Pasadena, 47-10.
The Spartans (8-3 overall record, 1-0 in league) were led by freshman Jennifer Musso, who single-handedly outscored Blair with 11 points in the first half. In the third quarter, she added a basket to finish with a game-high 13 points, including three 3-pointers.

Ransom, Mulcahey, Garland Lead LCHS to 79-39 Win

La Cañada High School’s varsity boys’ basketball team didn’t miss a beat after being idle for nearly two weeks as the Spartans crushed visiting Blair High of Pasadena in their Rio Hondo League opener, 79-39, on Monday.
La Cañada finished a remarkable 25 for 35 (71%) in field goal attempts as four Spartans scored in double digits.

Spartans, FSHA, Flintridge Prep Return to Action

La Cañada High School’s varsity girls’ water polo team has been idle since snapping its three-game losing streak with a 17-10 nonleague victory at Glendale on Friday, Dec. 17, at 3:30 p.m. The Spartans (2-4 overall record) will travel to South Pasadena for their second Rio Hondo League game on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.

LCHS Defeats Maranatha, Set to Open League Play

La Cañada High School’s boys’ varsity soccer team ended the calendar year with a 3-1 nonleague victory over visiting Maranatha High of Pasadena last Thursday, Dec. 30.
Previously, the Spartans (3-6-3 overall record) hosted a tournament and finished 0-1-1 over two days.

La Cañada High School’s varsity girls’ soccer team has been idle since it shut out visiting Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy 2-0 in a nonleague contest on Dec. 17.
The Spartans (5-1-1 overall record) ended December on a two-game win streak. They will attempt to carry the momentum into their second Rio Hondo League match by hosting South Pasadena on Friday at 3:30 p.m.

LCHS, Wolves Compete in COVID-Shortened Tournament

La Cañada High School’s varsity girls’ basketball team defeated Covina Northview, 32-30, in the second round of the 14th annual La Cañada New Year’s Ball Tournament last Tuesday, Dec. 28.
Unfortunately, the remaining two days of the tournament were canceled due to COVID-19 health and safety protocols, according to La Cañada head coach Jonathan Saavedra. No individual statistics were reported to the Outlook Valley Sun.
