The Flintridge Prep varsity boys’ volleyball team staved off host Arcadia Rio Hondo Prep’s rally for a five-game Prep League victory last Friday.
The Rebels (11-2 overall record, 2-0 in league) won the first two frames, 25-21, 25-12, but the Kares bounced back in the third with a 25-23 victory. The home squad carried that momentum into the fourth set to win, 26-24. However, Flintridge Prep rebounded to take the final game, 15-9, and the league win.
Jonny Samuels led Prep with 16 kills, and AJ Nicassio added 12. Majeed Ismail totaled 11 kills, Jake Althouse finished with five, Garrett Gaines had four, and Luke Stiles and Jonathan Au contributed one kill each. Gaines recorded five blocks, Au had four blocks and Althouse contributed three. Stiles recorded 25 assists and Ben Ventresca finished with 19 assists, and Nicassio tallied a team-high 17 digs. Leo Reilly totaled 14 digs.
Flintridge Prep will host rival Polytechnic in a league match on Friday, April 7, at 3:30 p.m.

The Spartans returned from spring break and fell to host Temple City in three games, 25-13, 25-20, 25-10, in a Rio Hondo League match on Tuesday.
La Cañada (0-8 overall, 0-2 in league) is still in search of its first victory of the season. The Spartans will host Flintridge Prep in a nonleague contest this Monday, April 10, at 3:30 p.m.
