Kaleidoscope to Play at the Huntington on Saturday

The Kaleidoscope Chamber Orchestra will perform at Rothenberg Hall at the Huntington Library on Saturday, Feb.18, at 8 p.m. The program will feature works by Ravel and Vaughan Williams as well as a West Coast premiere of “Tonight We Tell the Secrets of the World” by Philadelphia-based composer Scott Ordway. Violinist William Hagen will be making his Kaleidoscope debut on “The Lark Ascending” by Vaughn Williams. A pre-concert lecture will be offered by KUSC announcer Brian Lauritzen starting at 7:30 p.m.
During Kaleidoscope’s third season, all public concerts are being offered with an innovative “pay what you can” model that eliminates the barrier of a ticket price. Founder and President Benjamin Mitchell was also recently recognized by Musical America as one of the most innovative people in classical music.
Kaleidoscope is one of a handful of conductor-less orchestras in the world and the only one in Los Angeles. It is dedicated to enriching lives through exhilarating concert experiences, artistic excellence, musician leadership and connecting with the diverse communities of Los Angeles.
Now in its third season, the orchestra has performed all around Southern California, including the Colburn School, Santa Monica, Pasadena, Glendale, Palos Verdes, the Los Angeles Theater Center as well as at Union Station in downtown Los Angeles. The orchestra also performs at homeless shelters, hospitals and schools, including the Ronald McDonald House in Pasadena.
