Jewish, Christian and Muslim youth celebrated a shared commitment to peace recently at an Interfaith Youth Concert Honoring Daniel Pearl at Pasadena’s Weizmann Day School in Pasadena.
In addition to the hosts, students from B’nai Simcha Preschool, New Horizon School and Saint Mark’s School participated. Lisa Feldmann, head of school at Weizmann, hosted and reflected on Daniel Pearl’s message of goodness. Other speakers included Mayor Terry Tornek, a Weizmann alumnus, and U.S. Congresswoman Judy Chu.
This concert was part of a global Daniel Pearl World Music Days event (danielpearlmusicdays.org) honoring the journalist, an accomplished musician, who was killed by terrorists on assignment in Pakistan in 2002. The annual event, commemorating his October birthday, now includes more than 3,100 performances across 85 countries, including performances by Matisyahu, Peter Yarrow (of Peter, Paul & Mary) and The Bacon Brothers (Kevin Bacon’s band). The theme is “Harmony for Humanity,” to honor the legacy of Pearl through the musical medium he loved.
