Perfect! San Marino Wins CIF Championship

The 2015 San Marino High School varsity football team established itself as one of the best teams in school history by breaking just about every offensive record imaginable, winning the Rio Hondo League title and finishing the regular season unbeaten, but that wasn’t enough. The Titans wanted to cement their legacy not just at San Marino but in CIF-Southern Section history.
“You’ve got to fight if you want something big, and you’ve got to be persistent and stay after it,” said SMHS head football coach Mike Hobbie.
The Titans demonstrated that persistence throughout the playoffs and continued to do so against Covina Charter Oak in the CIF-SS Central Division championship at Glendora Citrus College on Saturday. San Marino erased an early deficit and dominated the rest of the way for a 45-28 victory, claiming the program’s first CIF-SS title since 1988.
They are a perfect 14-0 this season.
“I’m so proud of all these guys and the way they fought out here tonight,” said JP Shohfi, who caught 11 passes for 286 yards and two touchdowns. “That’s what it takes to win a CIF championship.”
Hobbie delivered the program’s fifth CIF football championship in the school’s 60-year history. The Titans have CIF banners from 1955, 1957, 1964 and 1988.
The season continues for the Titans as they qualified for the CIF State Football Championships. They will host Sierra Canyon of Chatsworth, which won the CIF-SS Mid-Valley Division title, in the Small Schools Division Southern Regional this Saturday, Dec. 12, at 7:30 p.m. at SMHS.
