In a colorful, all-day affair, San Marino residents commemorated America’s birthday, coming together for the annual Lacy Park Fourth of July celebration.
It began promptly at 8 a.m. with the J.P. Blecksmith 5K Memorial Run, after which spectators began filing into the park to reserve their places to view the night show, “Stars and Stripes Forever.”
Celebrations at the park brought City Council and School Board members to the stage, and featured Little League baseball and softball all-star teams. Between introductions and the presentation of colors, the San Marino Community Brass Band and Tom Sullivan’s Dixieland Band entertained.
Local Scouts presented the colors and the crowd sang along with “The Star Spangled Banner,” “America the Beautiful,” and “God Bless America.”
At 9:05 p.m., the fireworks went off. The crowd roared with applause at the end of the 20-minute show before heading home.
