It’s become a tradition, and for that, La Cañada Unified School District Superintendent Wendy Sinnette said she and her colleagues are most grateful.
For the seventh consecutive year, the La Cañada Flintridge Educational Foundation raised $2 million for the district, money that will be used to help fund smaller class size, to recruit and retain talented teachers and staff, and to fund programs in visual and performing arts as well as provide an array of math and science courses. With the formal release of the state’s CAASPP scores, San Marino Unified School District brought its four principals out for a press conference extolling the success of their students.
Superintendent Alex Cherniss, in introducing the principals, credited the district’s students for taking advantage of being in what is routinely one of the best ranked unified school districts in the state. For the third straight year, San Marino Unified School District produced the highest percentage of students meeting or exceeding the state-administered CAASPP, the district announced this week.
With 90% of students meeting or exceeding standards in the English language arts tests and 86% doing so for the math tests, SMUSD’s average of 88% led all unified school districts in California this year. In something of a photo finish, La Cañada Unified School District placed third in the most recent statewide CAASPP scoring, released this week by the California Department of Education.
