Mothers’ Club Family Learning Center has changed its name. It is now called Families Forward Learning Center to reflect the organization’s evolution to preparing families living in isolation and poverty to succeed in school and in life through a unique two-generation learning program.
“The heart of our organization has always been our staff and the people we serve, and as we become Families Forward, the spirit and legacy of Mothers’ Club will persist in our unmatched commitment to improving the lives of Pasadena’s at-risk families,” said Families Forward Executive Director Hector La Farga Jr.
Joining in the announcement celebration on Thursday were representatives from local elected officials, including state Sen. Anthony Portantino, Assemblyman Christopher Holden, Pasadena Mayor Terry Tornek and various members of the Pasadena City Council.

Two years ago, the group’s board of directors underwent an intensive process of research, brainstorming and discussion with key internal and external audiences to decide on a new name.
“Families Forward Learning Center will continue to empower low-income families to make positive changes in their community, provide a welcoming environment for at-risk families with children up to age 5, quality improvement in programs and everything the brand will now symbolize and continue to expand upon,” La Farga said.
Families Forward Learning Center serves more than 100 local, low-income families. Not just mothers, but fathers and grandparents as well.
Families Forward Board President Nurit Kotick said, “We changed our name to Families Forward to be recognized as a more inclusive organization that serves the entire family and positions us to have more impact in the community we serve. With the name change, we hope to attract new supporters to our organization.”
