Pasadena Heritage’s Craftsman Weekend Oct. 26-29

Pasadena Heritage will present its 26th annual Craftsman Weekend from Oct. 26-29. Craftsman Weekend is the largest and most comprehensive salute to the Arts and Crafts Movement in the Western United States, according to an event spokesperson.
The weekend’s offerings will include tours of significant Craftsman-era houses, a variety of bus and walking tours, an Exposition Show and Sale with more than 40 exhibitors featuring antique and contemporary furnishings and decorative arts, a silent auction, presentations, and exclusive evening receptions at historic sites.
The Craftsman Movement emerged in the early 20th century in the United States as an outgrowth of the English Arts and Crafts Movement. Its hallmark is a philosophy of honest, simple design expressed in handmade creations by skilled craftsmen. While the movement flowered throughout the nation, Pasadena became a particularly strong center for Craftsman design, including architecture, art and ceramics. International recognition of Craftsman-era expression in Pasadena has been accorded to architects Charles and Henry Greene, tile maker Ernest Batchelder, artists Elmer and Marion Wachtel, writer/photographer Helen Lukens Gaut and others.
Pasadena Heritage was founded in 1977 as a nonprofit organization dedicated to historic preservation in and around the city. The organization advocates on behalf of historic resources, educates the public about local history and the benefits of preservation, demonstrates quality restoration through its programs, projects and actively participates in the city planning process.
