The Pasadena Museum of California Art’s recent ¡Fiesta Cubana! benefit celebrated California art and honored art and education advocates Reed and Chris Halladay and artist, educator and Los Angeles native Dave Lefner. Inspired by the PMCA’s current exhibition, Hollywood in Havana: Five Decades of Cuban Posters Promoting U.S. Films, the Cuban- and Hollywood-themed event took place in the Museum’s iconic Kenny Scharf Kosmic Krylon Garage.
Beneath twinkling lights, attendees danced to the sounds of Yambu Productions and posed with a Lyd & Mo flower wall and Vinty classic car. After bidding on silent auction artwork by renowned California artists, such as Ed Ruscha, Claire Falkenstein and Frank Gehry, guests dined on Cuban-themed bites and got swept into Cuban and Hollywood culture with Dominoes, Hollywood trivia, and flower and printmaking. To cap off the evening, the museum presented the Halladays and Lefner with California Visionary Awards and auctioned one of Dave Lefner’s reduction linocuts and a trip to Havana and did a paddle raise to support the Museum’s educational programs. All proceeds from the event supported PMCA’s mission, exhibitions and education initiative.
