Two Pasadena-based organizations, codeSpark Academy, the computer science platform for young kids and STEAM:CODERS, a nonprofit organization that teaches underrepresented and underserved kids the basics of STEAM, are celebrating Women’s History Month by hosting Supercoders Camp, a series of girls-coding and game-making workshops each Saturday through March in Pasadena.
Girls between the ages of 5-10 will get project-based experience that teaches them the fundamentals of block-based programming and making their own video games. The three-hour session takes place at Supplyframe DesignLab. The events feature rotating speakers who are all female programmers in the Los Angeles area to inspire the aspiring young girl coders.
“We strive to address the very limited resources and opportunities for students to learn about Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math (STEAM), especially among the underserved families in the Pasadena area and couldn’t be more excited to work with codeSpark Academy to provide an interactive experience, including the tools and know-how of coding basics to young girls locally,” said Raymond Ealy, Steam:Coders executive director and founder.
