Poly, Mayfield, St. Francis Athletes Shine in Finals

Athletes from Polytechnic, Mayfield Senior, St. Francis, Maranatha and Flintridge Sacred Heart competed in the CIF Southern Section Track and Field Finals at El Camino College in Torrance last weekend.
Xian Shively concluded his career at Poly on a high note by winning the Division 4 crown in the 3,200-meter run. The senior standout finished in 9 minutes, 17.27 seconds and will move on to this Saturday’s Masters Meet at El Camino College.

Teammate Zoey Mao took home a silver medal in the high jump by clearing 5 feet, 3 inches. The sophomore also qualified for Masters and will be the No. 10 seed in the event.

Jack Babcock also represented the Panthers in the finals and posted a time of 16.74 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles, placing him eighth.
Mayfield also competed in the Division 4 finals and was led by freshman standout Audrey Suarez, who ran in two events. She finished the 800-meter run in 2 minutes, 13.28 seconds for second place and took home another silver medal after posting a time of 4:54.40 in the 1,600-meter run. She is the first Cub to qualify for the Masters Meet.

Mia Koga tied for fourth place in the pole vault event after clearing 10 feet, and Sidney Hendricks contributed a ninth-place finish in the 3,200 with a time of 12 minutes, 8.08 seconds.

Competing in the Division 3 finals, Matthew Molina of St. Francis captured two individual CIF championships. The junior Golden Knight won the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.73 seconds and high jump by clearing 6 feet, 6 inches.
Teammate Blake Howard was fifth in the pole vault competition after clearing 13 feet, and Andrew Monarrez placed eighth in the long jump by recording 20 feet, 7.5 inches.
Maranatha High School had five top-five finishes in the Division 4 finals and were led by Brendan and Justin Fong.
Brendan took home a bronze medal by finishing the 200-meter dash in 22.28 seconds and placed fourth in the 400 with a time of 49.72. He also teamed up with Eli Rodarte, Henry Witherspoon and Keaton Strawn for a second-place finish in the 4×400-meter relay. The quartet finished the race in 3:26.26.
Fong was also part of the 4×100 relay team that included Zach McClendon, Josh Wolfork and Justin Fong. The foursome finished in 43.99 seconds for seventh place.
Justin Fong finished fourth in two events after posting a time of 11.03 seconds in the 100-meter dash and 22.35 seconds in the 200.
Ryan Greene represented the Maranatha girls’ team and finished the 100-meter dash in 12.42 for seventh place.
Lauren Bolte of Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy ran the Division 4 400-meter dash and placed ninth with a time of 60.19.
