About 20 3rd-graders from Jefferson Elementary School in Pasadena were part of this year’s camp at the Pasadena retirement community.
One of the camp’s highlights was a visit from former Olympic swimmer John Naber, who let the campers hold one of his five Olympic medals he won for the backstroke.
“We like to swim and we like our teachers,” said one of the campers. “It’s fun to come here. Holding the gold medal was cool.”
The monthlong camp pairs 9- and 10-year-olds with Villa residents who share their interests and passions with the kids.
“Their energy is infectious,” said resident and retired elementary school teacher Sue Peace, who taught the campers singing and dancing. “They are just so delightful to work with.”
