The Pasadena Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and the Pasadena Delta Foundation recently presented the 14th annual Young African-American Women’s Conference for girls in middle and high school.
Following the theme “Soundtrack to Your Success,” the event provided an opportunity for more than 350 girls and their parents/guardians to explore their special talents and interests, identify resources and tools to succeed in college, heighten their awareness of career options and learn about relevant life issues.
Rose Princesses Autumn Lundy and Shannon Larsuel presented their perspectives on realizing one’s dreams, and actress Yara Shahidi of ABC’s “Blackish” spoke on teen life, advising the audience to do what is right and not what is popular.
The conference included career and life skills workshops, a parent forum and a civic engagement forum.
The conference planning committee was led by co-chairs Nicci Gorham, Danielle Clark, LaTasha Nesbitt and Evan McCrary.
