The Urban Compass Guild — a support organization for the Urban Compass, keeping students and their families out of gangs and into a college pathway — is gearing up for the holiday season with its Adopt A Family program, and is seeking support for its families in need.
The Guild provides holiday meals to all participating families as well as coordinating an Adopt A Family program for deserving families. Each year, a loading party is held to fill a U-Haul truck with gifts provided by Adopt A Family participants, which will be given to Urban Compass families at their annual holiday party (also arranged and run by members of the UC Guild). For many of these UC families, the only holiday cheer they will know is through Urban Compass and the generosity of people outside of their immediate community.
The Urban Compass Guild supports the inspiring work of the nonprofit group Urban Compass. Located in the communities of Watts and Pico-Union of Los Angeles, Urban Compass provides after school and enrichment support for children in kindergarten through 5th grade. They work with students and their families to keep them out of gangs in their neighborhoods and to provide a foundation for a successful college pathway.
