Armed Robbers Enter SM Home, Evade Capture

Three armed men robbed a Melville Drive resident and took his keys in the early morning hours of Wednesday, June 14. They entered his home before the victim called 911 from his cellphone, according to San Marino Police Department.
San Marino Fire Department used a ladder to evacuate the man’s sleeping adult son from an upper story bedroom before police officers searched the home and property. The three suspects, however, dodged authorities despite a perimeter formed around the property.
According to SMPD, the victim had just parked in the drive of his home in the 1800 block of Melville Drive when the suspects, described as three black men about 20 years old and standing between 5 feet 6 inches and 5 feet 10 inches tall and wearing hoodies (one gray, two black), approached him. One of the men pointed a black handgun at the victim and demanded his wallet, watch and set of keys.
After handing over the items, the victim said, the suspects ordered him to stay in the vehicle, then used his keys to enter the home. The victim called SMPD at 12:22 a.m., and told police his son was asleep in an upstairs room.
SMPD officers were on-scene in less than a minute and were quickly joined by those from Pasadena Police Department, South Pasadena Police Department, Alhambra Police Department, San Gabriel Police Department and Monterey Park Police Department. They set up a perimeter while SMFD set up for the rescue of the victim’s son.
Officers could not locate the suspects after searching the victim’s home and surrounding properties. There also was no vehicle seen or heard fleeing the scene. Detective Patrice Garcia said it remains unclear whether the suspects actually entered the home and, if they did, how long they were in there. Nothing was reported missing. On Monday, Garcia noted police are following up on a possible lead, but cannot give details on the record as the investigation continues.
Those with any information are urged to contact Garcia at SMPD by calling (626) 300-0726.
