At its recent annual meeting, the Pasadena Art Alliance announced its new board for the coming year; shared highlights from the past year; welcomed Bettina Korek, executive director of L.A. Frieze and founder of ForYourArt, as its speaker; and celebrated the success of the 2019 Treasure Sale in April (held every four years to earn money for the grants program).
The highlight of the meeting was the presentation of the highly anticipated Impact Award to Ryman Arts. Ryman Arts is a Los Angeles area program that provides high-caliber advanced-level studio art instruction, and college and career planning, to high school artists — free of charge. Working at two campuses, one at Otis College of Art and Design and the other at Cal State Fullerton, it is able to offer superlative art instruction to close to 600 students yearly. Of these students, representing more than 190 ZIP codes, 95% matriculate to various colleges across the state and country.
The Impact Award was created in 2015 to commemorate the Pasadena Art Alliance’s 60th Anniversary and to honor excellence in visual contemporary art education that impacts youth. The Award is a way for the Art Alliance to further strengthen its support of contemporary art in Los Angeles County by extending the reach beyond college and graduate level programs funded by the grants program. This year the grants program awarded more than $300,000 to its deserving recipients. Over the years, the Pasadena Art Alliance has awarded more than $6 million in grants.
