the Rev. Megan Katerjian

The Rev. Megan Katerjian has been named Door of Hope’s new executive director, it was announced last week. Door of Hope is a nonprofit, faith-based organization whose mission is to equip homeless families to rebuild their lives. It provides a compassionate pathway to long-term life change for families experiencing homelessness in the San Gabriel Valley area. Serving hundreds of families over the last 30 years, Door of Hope’s focus has remained on helping families transition from homelessness, to self-sufficiency and permanent housing.
“Megan’s experience working with churches, volunteers, individual donors, foundations, and government, together with her excellent communication skills, leadership abilities, passion for Door of Hope’s mission, and deep empathy for those we serve, make her an excellent fit to become our next executive director,” a Door of Hope spokesman said. “A person of deep faith and a passion to serve poor and vulnerable people, Megan’s background includes pastoral ministry and a significant history in nonprofit work.”
For the past seven years, Katerjian has worked in pastoral ministry with a focus on community outreach, most recently serving as outreach pastor at La Cañada Presbyterian Church. Prior to that, she spent six years working for nonprofits in Chicago that help poor and underserved families with a focus on fundraising, policy advocacy and program development. She also spent a year volunteering for two nonprofit organizations in South Africa.
“Over the last six years, I have seen so many lives transformed through Door of Hope,” Katerjian said. “I’ve witnessed a father get his two sons out of foster care, a mother get reunited with her daughter, and parents brimming with pride over the news that their daughters made honor role. For every one story of life change I’ve witnessed personally, I have heard dozens more from the dedicated staff who work with these families every day. It was largely in seeing and hearing about these everyday miracles that I increasingly felt God’s call. I didn’t just want to serve occasionally at a place like Door of Hope. I wanted Door of Hope’s mission – to equip families experiencing homelessness to rebuild their lives – to become my mission. I am so thrilled to be joining this wonderful team.”
Katerjian holds a masters of divinity and MA in cross-cultural studies from Fuller Seminary, as well as a bachelor’s degree from Cornell University. She lives with her husband, Harout, and two young children in Altadena.
Those wishing to meet her may attend an open house on Thursday, Nov. 16, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Door of Hope (669 N. Los Robles, Pasadena). To RSVP, email info@doorofhope.us.
