Young & Healthy, a community-based nonprofit that provides access to medical, dental, mental health and other health services free-of-charge to uninsured and underinsured low-income children, will hold its annual benefit gala on Saturday evening, Jan. 27. The fundraiser will be held in the heart of downtown Los Angeles’ fashion district at City Market Social House.
Darrell Done, the former board chair of Young & Healthy, will be honored with the Alliance Award, and All Saints Church and Neighborhood Unitarian Universalist Church will receive the J. Donald Thomas Award. These honorees are those whose “dedication, perseverance and selfless devotion to the wellbeing of children exemplifies the spirit that led to the founding of Young & Healthy” nearly three decades ago.
The gala, featuring the alpine theme “Après Ski With Young & Healthy,” will include an opportunity to double the funds raised for the organization on the evening of the event. For the second year in a row, the Helen and Will Webster Foundation has challenged Young & Healthy with a 2:1 matching grant for all donations made on the night of its gala, including the silent and live auctions, paddle raise and opportunity drawing.
Founded in 1990, Young & Healthy’s mission is to improve quality of life for children in the Pasadena area. Health professionals share their time, skills and resources with children whose families would otherwise be unable to access that care.
“Après Ski with Young & Healthy” Gala Committee members include Jan Cantwell, Mimi Goldstein, Linda Hooke, Lia Miller, Cristina Navarrete, Karen Peterson, Justene Pierce, Jean Pisano, Sandy Roberts, Kathleen Talbot, Catherine Welch and Melissa Wu.
