Families Forward Learning Center recently hosted its annual Power of Two celebration with 115 of its closest supporters at Descanso Gardens in La Cañada Flintridge. The evening raised support for the critical education programs and social services Families Forward offers low-income families each day.
The festive evening honored Judith Brown for more than 20 years of critical leadership and advocacy on behalf of Families Forward and the Pasadena community. Brown served on the board of directors at Families Forward for two six-year terms, including two years as president of the board. Attendees also heard from Families Forward participant Cecilia De La Torre, mother of four, who has taken advantage of all the resources and learning opportunities the agency has to offer while her two youngest children receive high-quality early childhood education at the center. De La Torre has grown into her role as a leader at Families Forward, serving as treasurer of the Parent Advisory Board and continuing her education at the Community Education Center at Pasadena Community College.
The event was a success, raising more than $60,000 to support the mission of Families Forward Learning Center to prepare families living in isolation and poverty to succeed in school and in life through two-generation learning programs.
