Muse/ique’s Summer Series Kicks Off June 30 at the Huntington

Muse/ique will celebrate and explore the country’s unique sound in “States/United: Mapping Musical America,” its summer series unfolding at the Huntington Library on June 30, July 28 and Aug. 25.
Performances will take place at the Brown Garden Lawn, adjacent to the Virginia Steele Scott Galleries of American Art.
The series kicks off on Saturday, June 30, with “Limitless/Lenny,” a celebration of Leonard Bernstein’s 100th birthday. The Muse/ique Orchestra is joined by special guests — L.A. Choral Lab, violinist Charles Yang and Kitty McNamee dancers — in a program that includes a music and dance tribute to “On the Waterfront,” selections from “West Side Story,” and works by John Lennon, Sam Cooke and more.
On Saturday, July 28, the “States/United” journey continues with “Movement/Aloud!,” an exploration of the varied roots of the American voice. The Muse/ique Orchestra will be joined by Norman Lear, who will recite the Declaration of Independence, as well as featured dancers from Ballet Hispánico and violinist Alyssa Park.
“U.S./Routes” concludes the series on Saturday, Aug. 25, with a program that delves into classic American R&B, soul and pop by exploring the U.S.’ vast musical landscape. There will be popular American songs and a special performance by American Ballet Theatre dancers
Herman Cornejo and Sara Lane, and pianist Lara Downes will perform some of Bernstein’s most iconic works. Tickets are on sale at muse-ique.com.
