Approximately 40 residents of the Villa Gardens Retirement Community recently gathered to commemorate the community’s 85th anniversary with a tree-planting ceremony. Speakers included Executive Director Dmitry Estrin, Resident’s Association President Nancy Bechtolt and honorary historian Jim Haight.
The program included a tribute to Ethel Andrus, humanitarian and educator, who established the foundation that led to the purchase of the Villa Gardens property. She later created AARP. The historian then highlighted the reconstruction, improvements, expansion and renovations leading to today’s state-of-the art facilities. Following the program, many attendees enjoyed wielding the decorative shovel to reinforce the support of the 6-foot evergreen.
