The Blinn House Foundation gathered at the Blinn House to honor this year’s recipients of the Dr. Robert Winter Award, Cathy and Lew Phelps. Living what they preach, the Phelps’ have used their talents to restore four historic homes in various parts of the county, including their current 1907-08 Madison Heights residence designed by Pasadena architect Frederick Louis Roehrig.
Since 2004, the Blinn House Foundation has recognized individuals within the community to acknowledge their commitment to local history and preservation of historic assets.
Lew’s background in public relations — and crisis management and messaging — has been an effective tool in bringing public awareness to local preservation issues and answering threats to historic resources. Cathy’s background in interior design includes pro bono services on various projects for Pasadena Heritage and Heritage Housing Partners, where she served on the board for several years, including two years as chair. Cathy also served six years on Pasadena’s Historic Preservation Commission, including two years as chair.
