Senior designated hitter Devin LeClair capped off a seven-run second inning with a towering grand slam over the right field fence and the Burbank High School’s baseball team never looked back, handing Baldwin Park Sierra Vista an 11-3 drubbing in their CIF-SS Division 5 playoff opener.
Burbank (13-5 record) only recorded six hits, but also worked nine walks and took advantage of all four errors Sierra Vista committed on Tuesday.

Claire Murray will be the lone representative of La Cañada High School in the CIF Southern Section Division 3 championships at Norwalk Cerritos College this Saturday.
Murray won the 100-meter hurdles event at the CIF prelims with a time of 14.60. The junior also participated in the 4×100 relay along with Kamryn Creighton, Jackie Gevorgian and Samantha Mayer. La Cañada High School freshman Danny Syrkin broke out in the Rio Hondo League finals with three victories and one silver medal, and the standout swimmer carried over that performance onto the biggest stage last Friday.
Syrkin participated in four events at the CIF Southern Section Division 2 swimming and diving finals at the Riverside Aquatics Center and came home a bronze medal. The freshman finished third in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 48.76 and was 11th in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:42.09, which was good enough for CIF State consideration. The La Cañada High School varsity softball team concluded the regular season with a dominant 12-1 victory over host San Marino last week.

The La Cañada High School varsity boys’ volleyball team fell to host No. 6 seed Quartz Hill in three games, 25-13, 25-10, 25-21, in the first round of the CIF Southern Section Division 2 playoffs on Tuesday.
