The building at 858 Foothill Blvd. will house the bookstore owned by Peter and Lenora Wannier, who plan a move in February.

The Flintridge Bookstore & Coffeehouse is set to move to the building formerly occupied by Citizens Business Bank for more than two decades — a space at the corner of Foothill Boulevard and Beulah Drive — and the Kumon Math and Reading Center will take up residence alongside it. Flintridge Bookstore Building Sells for $4.9M

Flintridge Bookstore & Coffeehouse is expected to move to a new location on Foothill Boulevard in 2020, and the building will become the site of mortgage banking company HouseAmerica.

Flintridge Bookstore & Coffeehouse, an iconic presence on Foothill Boulevard, will move to a new location in February after its current home was sold recently for $4.9 million, according to Peter Wannier, who owns the business with his wife, Lenora. Flintridge Bookstore Celebrates Independent Bookstore Day April 28

Flintridge Bookstore & Coffeehouse celebrates Independent Bookstore Day on Saturday, April 28, from 10 a.m.-5 p.m., with activities for all ages. The event includes a reading in conjunction with National Poetry Month and author appearances in conjunction with Earth Day, plus other author signings and special story times with visits from therapy and rescue dogs. The store is also having a book drive for La Cañada Flintridge elementary school libraries. There will be lots of giveaways and a drawing to win a tote bag full of books.
Independent Bookstore Day is a nationwide event created in 2015 to show support for local booksellers and a special time for them to reach out to their communities. Approximately 500 bookstores throughout the country have events planned for this celebration.

‘Ages of Oz’ Creator at Flintridge Bookstore Feb. 5

Flintridge Bookstore & Coffeehouse will welcome Gabriel Gale, creator of “Ages of Oz,” on Monday, Feb. 5, at 4 p.m. The book is an adaptation and expansion of the “Oz” that everyone knows and loves.
“Ages of Oz” tells the story of Glinda’s transformation from a 13-year-old student uncertain of her future to the most powerful magician in all of Oz. The series addresses social justice and the importance of independent thinking during tumultuous political times in which illusion, fear, terror, distraction and unlawful imprisonment rule.
At this after-school event, Gale talks with publicist Rene Makrinos; signs the trilogy’s first book “A Fiery Friendship”; and gives a preview of Book 2, “A Dark Descent” (releasing May 2018). Both titles are written by Lisa Fiedler and illustrated by Sebastian Giacobino.

Bill Nye the Science Guy was greeted like a rock star by a crowd of 325 people who gathered to hear him and co-author Gregory Mone discuss their book series, “Jack and the Geniuses,” on Thursday, Sept. 14, at Flintridge Bookstore & Coffeehouse’s outdoor parking lot.
“Helloooo Flintridge!” the former TV star and renowned science personality shouted into his microphone over the cheering crowd, which consisted of fans of all ages. Nye went on to share some of his motivation for writing the series, which combines real-world science along with mysterious adventure in a way that’s meant to leave young readers guessing until the end. Constantine Family to Read at Flintridge Bookstore

Flintridge Bookstore & Coffeehouse welcomes actor/writer Michael Constantine and his son and daughter, poet Brendan Constantine and novelist Thea Constantine, for a talk on Sunday, Sept. 24 at 3 p.m. Join them for a special (family safe) event where a family reads eventfully.
Michael Constantine is an award-winning actor whose career spans more than half-century. He has created groundbreaking roles on stage, screen and television. He is perhaps best known to audiences for the role of Gus Portukalos in the “Big Fat Greek Wedding” franchise. In recent years, he has emerged as a compelling author. He is currently shopping his first novel, “The Sins of Holy Men.” This book was printed on the Espresso Book Machine (EBM) at Flintridge Bookstore.
Brendan Constantine is a poet based in Los Angeles. His work has appeared in Prairie Schooner, Field, Ploughshares, Virginia Quarterly and Ninth Letter, among other journals. His most recent collection is “Dementia, My Darling” (2016 Red Hen Press). He has received grants and commissions from the Getty Museum, James Irvine Foundation and the National Endowment for the Arts. He currently teaches poetry at the Windward School and regularly offers classes to hospitals, foster homes, veterans and the elderly.

It’s no secret that the cost of a college education is about the average cost of a single-family home in America: $258,000. If you don’t pay it all in cash, you and your student can get guaranteed loans with an average interest rate of 6% to 11%. This means that you and your student could easily have a combined student loan payment amounting to approximately $2,500 per month for more than 15 years. Local Bookstore Helps in Backpack Drive

It’s a Sunday morning in August and the Robinson Park Recreation Center on North Fair Oaks Avenue is bustling with activity. Inside the facility’s gymnasium and community room, which have been temporarily outfitted with barber chairs, hundreds of young children start their final day of summer by receiving free haircuts and backpacks filled with school supplies. Known as the Michael Bryant Free Haircut and Back-to-School Event, the program seeks to prepare underserved Pasadena Unified School District students — both academically and physically — for a new year of classes.
