The Rev. Kerwin Manning and his wife, Madelyn, have established A Piece of My Heart Foundation in honor of their daughter, Morgan Manning, who died at age 14 of a rare heart condition, catecholaminergic polymorphic ventricular tachycardia.
The nonprofit organization is having its inaugural golf tournament on Monday, Oct. 11, at La Cañada Flintridge Country Club. Golf registration begins at 9 a.m.; the shotgun start is at 11 a.m. The post-golf reception and silent auction begins at 5:30, followed by the awards presentation and dinner program. Monte Vista Grove Homes presents its Grateful Grove Gala: Community in all Seasons on Saturday, Oct. 16, as a tribute to the resilience, generosity and inspiration demonstrated by its many and diverse community supporters. The event, which will be held at the La Cañada Flintridge Country Club, begins with a reception at 5 p.m. followed by the program and dinner at 6 p.m.

Longtime La Cañada Flintridge resident Moine (Su) Kim is in the midst of a remarkable golf year, which included her winning the Southern California Golf Association’s Women’s Amateur net championship last week. The two-day competition, held Aug. 17-18 at the Omni La Costa Resort Legends Course, marked Kim’s third title of the year. On the 5,472-yard course, she shot a 93 (net 76) on the Mission “A” flight. On the next day, she rallied by shooting 89 (net 72) and won in a card off with a total net of 148.
Fran Reinhard, a longtime La Cañada Flintridge resident, passed away February 21, 2021. She was 98!
Fran was born and raised in Sumter, South Carolina, and was the youngest of eight children. While working as a health clerk for the Army in Fort Benning, Georgia, she met the love of her life, Bill Reinhard. Shortly after getting married, Bill was called to war. After he returned, they moved to Montrose, California, where Bill’s family lived. They shared 71 years of marriage and had three boys. Bill and Fran were also one of the owners of the Indian Springs Swimming Pool Complex in Montrose. The Junior League of Pasadena will hold its annual Simply Speaking silent auction and dinner on Saturday, April 29, at the La Cañada Flintridge Country Club. Proceeds from the event will support the Junior League of Pasadena’s community outreach initiatives and charitable efforts in Pasadena and the surrounding communities.

A well-coiffed crowd will gather for a celebration of cityhood next week at the La Cañada Flintridge Country Club, reveling high on the hillside overlooking its city, which on Nov. 30 will turn 40 years old.
