As titles go, Lindi Dreibelbis’ is substantial: She is (deep breath) La Cañada Unified School District’s Chief Director of Assessment, Research, Consolidated Programs and CALPADS.
Her duties put her in charge of state-mandated assessments and have her making reports to the state and federal government, as well as monitoring the state accountability system for school and district progress. She’s charged with pursuing grants, overseeing daily attendance practices and providing leadership for the English Language Development Program. She’s also tasked with maintaining individual-level data on student demographics, courses, discipline, assessments and staff assignments.
In essence, she’s the district’s “data queen.”

The California Department of Education sent out report cards last week, and as usual, La Cañada Unified School District earned high marks. The district received the highest rating possible in nine of 11 measures that are intended to offer a thorough analysis of educational goals.
The new California School Dashboard report, released on Dec. 7, indicated that LCUSD students’ scores slipped slightly in some areas, but they still maintained “very high” performances in the prioritized areas of English language arts, mathematics, graduation rates and English-learning progress. Members of the La Cañada Unified School District Governing Board got another lesson on the California School Dashboard at Tuesday’s board meeting.
Lindi Dreibelbis, LCUSD’s chief director of assessment, reminded her audience that Dashboard is replacing the former Academic Performance Index in the state, and she introduced the new local indicators, which are intended to offer districts a way to measure their progress in a variety of self-selected topics. It’s become a tradition, and for that, La Cañada Unified School District Superintendent Wendy Sinnette said she and her colleagues are most grateful.
For the seventh consecutive year, the La Cañada Flintridge Educational Foundation raised $2 million for the district, money that will be used to help fund smaller class size, to recruit and retain talented teachers and staff, and to fund programs in visual and performing arts as well as provide an array of math and science courses. In something of a photo finish, La Cañada Unified School District placed third in the most recent statewide CAASPP scoring, released this week by the California Department of Education.

The second batch of online testing results released this week again placed La Cañada Unified School District’s students among the best-scoring in the state.
The annual California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress system ranked LCUSD’s 5th-, 6th- and 8th-graders tops in the state in English language arts/literacy, while its 6th-graders also rated first in math, according to mean scale score performance data reported by Lindi Dreibelbis, chief director of assessment.
