Three local private high schools have again tipped the grade scales among Los Angeles County’s best private schools, according to the neighborhood research website Niche.com, which uses parent and student reviews, public test scores and college data to compile its annual rankings.
According to Niche’s compilation of the “2020 Best Private High Schools” in the county, Flintridge Prep ranked No. 2, Polytechnic School No. 3 and Westridge No. 5, reclaiming the same spots they had in last year’s ratings. Neighborhood research website Niche.com has listed La Cañada High School as the No. 7 public high school in Los Angeles County and No. 24 in California.

Neighborhood research aggregator Niche.com has awarded San Marino High School an A+ while ranking it as the No. 2 public high school in Los Angeles County and No. 8 in all of California.
SMHS earned A+ ratings in four of the 10 categories — academics, teachers, college prep and administration — on which the website based its rankings. The school also earned A’s in food and health and safety, an A-minus in diversity and a B+ in sports, clubs and activities, and resources and facilities.
In L.A. County, the ranking put SMHS only slightly behind Palos Verdes Peninsula High School in Rolling Hills Estates. Perennial competitor La Cañada High School checked in at No. 5 in the county and nearby South Pasadena High School came in at No. 7. The power rankings featured all the usual suspects, including Harvard-Westlake, Flintridge Prep and Pasadena Polytechnic, which checked in high among the private schools sorted by factors such as academics and college readiness.
