Pasadena City College Foundation Names New Board Members

The Pasadena City College Foundation has announced the appointment of seven new members to its board of directors. The new members join other Pasadena area leaders to support PCC students and the college by working to fulfill the mission of the foundation.
The foundation has elected Hoyt Hilsman, Cynthia Kurtz, Gloria de Olarte, Gilda Pettit, Justin Tsui, Robert Floe and Craig Washington. These new members come in under the presidency of Gloria Pitzer and they bring their invaluable expertise to the board.
Those continuing to serve on the foundation’s board of directors include: Geoffrey Baum, Scott Bell, Glenn Bowie, Sheldon Bull, Vivian Chan, Dana Dattola, Charmayne Mills Ealy, Erika Endrijonas, Ralph Frammolino, Carmella Grahn, Mark Harmsen, Bill Hawkins, William Krantz, Nancy Lan, Robert Miller, Michael Mitchell, Ryan Newman, Clara Potes-Fellow, Gloria Pitzer, Jim Sarni, R.C. Schrader, Don Schweitzer, Jack Scott, Chuck Stanislawski, Gregory Sun and Wade Winter.

PCC Foundation Receives $1.5 Million Gift

The Pasadena City College Foundation has announced a $1.5 million bequest from the estate of Adelaide Finkbine Hixon, an enthusiastic supporter of the college and advocate for education.
Hixon died in 2019 at the age of 101.
In 2000, she gave $1 million to the college, funds that were used to establish the Hixon Teacher Preparation Program. Last month, the foundation received an additional $1.5 million bequest in her will.

PCC Foundation Ready to Assist Students During Crisis

The Pasadena City College Foundation’s highest priority is ensuring that students’ needs are met so that they can persist toward their academic goals. The Pasadena City College campus is closed to students and the public until April 20. Classes, counseling and other student services will be offered online. Full-time employees, hourly workers and personnel determined by the campus leadership will continue day-to-day operations whether on-campus or remotely.
Students’ lives are changing daily. Depending on their individual circumstances, some students have had work hours from their part-time jobs essentially eliminated; others are having to scramble for child-care support while others are left to care for their elderly relatives. All of these situations threaten their academic progress by putting increased pressure on their households.

PCC Foundation Expands Fundraising and College’s Scope

Pasadena City College Foundation Executive Director Bobbi Abram and Jack Scott, former PCC president, have successfully led the ambitious “Impact Campaign,” raising $16 million for four initiatives: scholarships, career and technical education, arts and athletics. Scott has chaired the five-year campaign whose initial goal was $10 million.

With the Pasadena City College Foundation on the cusp of completing an ambitious, multimillion-dollar fundraising campaign, the San Gabriel Valley’s largest community college is assured of continuing to impact lives and serve as graduates’ bridge to an evolving economy for many generations to come, foundation members said recently.
With an initial goal of $10 million when it kicked off in late 2014, PCC’s first-of-its-kind “Impact Campaign” has now raised about $16 million, which will be dedicated to four major initiatives to improve outcomes for its 29,000 students: scholarships, career and technical education, arts and athletics.
The campaign’s success will improve programs not supported by the college’s operational budget, like the resurfacing of the athletic field, engaging internship opportunities for continuing students or strengthening chances at employment for those graduating.
