YMCA Hosts Gift Wrapping Event

The Burbank Community YMCA’s Social Impact Center held a Ready to Wrap event on Dec. 10, with participants bringing gifts that will be donated to a local foster care agency. Attendees provided and wrapped dozens of gifts for children as they enjoyed music and refreshments. The Social Impact Center, believed to be the YMCA’s first LGBTQ resource center in the United States, opened earlier this year.

Next week will hold two “firsts” for the Burbank LGBTQ community.

On Tuesday, Mayor Bob Frutos is expected to proclaim June as Pride Month for the first time in the city’s history. And on Friday at 6 p.m., the local YMCA will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony presenting its new Social Impact Center — which representatives believe is the first LGBTQ resource center for both Burbank and the nonprofit’s United States locations.

Burbank YMCA, Conundrum Theatre Partner For Fundraiser

As the gradual reopening of schools, churches, restaurants, recreational and community facilities begins to bring life-as-we-once-knew-it back to Burbank, one organization of the local artistic community has already made its return to the stage.

This past week, the Burbank-based Conundrum Theatre Company joined forces with the Burbank Community YMCA to stage a drive-in concert fundraiser to support the Y’s new Social Impact Center.
