Burbank High School held off John Burroughs in the varsity boys’ competition and dominated on the varsity girls’ meet as the Bulldogs swept their crosstown rivals at the Verdugo Park pool on Wednesday. Burbank’s boys won 71-59 and girls were victorious 58-19.

Syrkin participated in four events at the CIF Southern Section Division 2 swimming and diving finals at the Riverside Aquatics Center and came home a bronze medal. The freshman finished third in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 48.76 and was 11th in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:42.09, which was good enough for CIF State consideration.
