YMCA of the Foothills Celebrates 60th Anniversary

The YMCA of the Foothills is celebrating 60 years of service to the local Foothills community. A celebration event will be hosted by Sandy and Mike Kobeissi on Saturday, May 19.
“The YMCA of the Foothills continues to care deeply about saving and changing lives, including the most fragile of families,” said President and CEO Tyler Wright.

La Cañada Kiwanis Club Opens ‘La Cañadan of the Year’ Nominations

Since the early 1950s, the La Cañada Noontime Kiwanis Club has been recognizing an individual as the La Cañadan of the Year. The club will be selecting an outstanding citizen from the community to be honored.
The public is asked to contribute to the process by nominating members of the community who have demonstrated strong evidence of “giving back” and exemplary commitment to the community. Longtime La Cañada Flintridge resident and community leader, Jeanne Broberg, was honored last year.

Vance Honors MLK Jr. at Prayer Breakfast

Courtney B. Vance has excelled in so many roles — as Johnnie Cochran on screen, as Hap Hairston on stage, as a parent and a husband in real life and, early on Thursday, Nov. 2, as the keynote speaker at the annual Community Prayer Breakfast at the Crescenta Cañada YMCA.
At the annual event, which seeks to highlight and raise funds for the YMCA’s Chaplain Services program, Vance delivered an address that weaved together poetry, history, Bible verse and real talk. LCUSD Board Extends L.A. Premier Contract Extension

For at least the next two years, the Los Angeles Premier Futbol Club will continue to call La Cañada High School home.
The Governing Board agreed at its meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 15, to license the La Cañada High School football field — where the turf was replaced last summer as part of a $1.3-million upgrade — to the soccer club already associated with the lease.
