As Sagebrush residents wait to learn whether their neighborhood will, at long last, be redistricted from Glendale Unified School District to La Cañada Unified, 59 additional students from the 385-acre westernmost slice of La Cañada Flintridge are expected to enroll in LCUSD on permits in the coming school year.
This year’s anticipated influx would bring the total of Sagebrush students attending LCUSD schools to 159, according to Superintendent Wendy Sinnette. Continue reading “Decision Pending, LCUSD’s Sagebrush Enrollment Grows”
It wasn’t pretty, but for proponents of the Sagebrush territory transfer, it was sweet.
After complicated, confused deliberation, the Los Angeles County Committee on School District Organization voted 8-1 on Wednesday to preliminarily approve the transfer of westernmost La Cañada Flintridge from Glendale Unified School District to La Cañada Unified School District.

The next big development in the decades-old Sagebrush saga has been rescheduled for March 8.
The Los Angeles County Committee of School District Organization’s meeting that was scheduled for Feb. 1 was canceled late last week because of the substantial amount of information members must read and analyze, according to the leader of the citizens group pushing for the territory transfer. UniteLCF wants the 385-acre westernmost portion of La Cañada Flintridge to be redistricted from Glendale Unified to La Cañada Unified.
The nearly half-century-old Sagebrush debate raged on at Crescenta Valley High School last week during the second and final public hearing about the most recent proposal for the school territory transfer from Glendale Unified to La Cañada Flintridge Unified.
A standing-room-only crowd in the La Cañada Unified School District’s board room was divided between the attendees in the yellow “One City, One School District” buttons and those in the yellow “Keep GUSD Whole” buttons.
Even before the first of two scheduled public hearings about the proposed Sagebrush territory transfer took place Wednesday evening at the La Cañada Unified School District, representatives on both sides of the matter dug in.
