Boys & Girls Club of Pasadena Launches Fundraising For COVID-19

The Boys and Girls Club of Pasadena has announced a fundraising campaign aimed at supporting their programs during the COVID-19 health crisis. For more than 80 years, the Boys & Girls Club of Pasadena has stepped up to provide safe places for kids and teens. Today, the organization is committed more than ever to ensure that club members, families and the community have the resources and support they need to navigate these uncertain times.
“We are doing whatever it takes right now to stand with our club families and the Pasadena community,” said Lisa Cavelier, CEO of the Boys and Girls Club of Pasadena. “We have created a ‘Virtual BGCP’ on our website that’s accessible to all, with engaging, age-appropriate after-school programming and interactive homework help daily. We’re also helping families in other ways, like delivering meals and groceries to quarantined families, and calling all of our families to make sure they’re OK and connect them with community resources.”
All donations raised during this campaign will be matched dollar-for-dollar up to $10,000 by one of the club’s board members. Funds will be used to expand the “Virtual BGCP” after-school program offerings and for continued support and outreach to club families. Key partners in the club’s campaign include the Kirby-Jones Foundation, the Rotary Club of Pasadena, Pete Kutzer and Patrick Chraghchian, and numerous club board members.
“The COVID-19 Relief Fund will also enable club doors to re-open so that they can continue to provide out-of-school-time programs to current members and the local community,” according to a BGCP statement. “With unemployment on the rise and the long-term economic impact of COVID-19 unknown, young people will need to be equipped more than ever with the essential skills to achieve success in school, enter college, and successfully join the workforce. Also, when the club re-opens, there is a concern that mental health resources will be needed to help youth as they transition out of this difficult time.”
Since 1937, the mission of the Boys & Girls Club of Pasadena has been to enable all children and youth in the community, especially those who need it most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, healthy and responsible citizens. The club promotes the health, education, social, vocational, and character development of boys and girls, ages 6 to 18, and helps improve the lives of these children by helping them build self-assurance and develop leadership skills while reinforcing positive values. The Boys & Girls Club operates two sites in Pasadena: Slavik Branch at 3230 East Del Mar Blvd.; and Mackenzie-Scott Branch at 2020 North Fair Oaks Ave. The club serves (through membership and outreach) over 2,000 community youth year-round.
