Cancer Support Community Pasadena recently celebrated the official naming of the Farrah Fawcett Group Room in its facility with a naming ceremony.
Farrah Fawcett started the Farrah Fawcett Foundation in 2007, after being diagnosed with anal cancer in 2006. She died June 25, 2009. The foundation funds research for HPV-related cancers, promotes awareness and cancer prevention strategies, and provides patient assistance funds to help those struggling with the expenses of treatment.
“We are so grateful for the foundation’s generous grant to CSCP, and so pleased to have this beautiful new partnership,” remarked Meg Symes, CSCP’s executive director. “We are both organizations working to provide education, support and hope to individuals facing a cancer.”
The evening began with a presentation from David Kessler, board member of the Farrah Fawcett Foundation and expert and bestselling author on death, grieving and healing. More than 60 people attended. After Kessler’s presentation, Symes and CSCP Board President Michael Healy officially dedicated Group Room #2 as the Farrah Fawcett Room. As a tribute to the late Fawcett, the room was decorated with orchids, which were her favorite flower.
Alana Stewart, president of the foundation, spoke of her friendship with Fawcett and how pleased the late actress would have been to see the foundation’s resources supporting CSCP’s endeavors.
CSCP is located at 76 E. Del Mar Blvd., Suite 215, on the second floor of the Pasadena Humane Society’s building. For more information, call (626) 796-1083 or visit cscpasadena.org.
